Recently having undergone a stylish revamp, with bright, clean spaces designed by Alexander Waterworth Interiors, this sleek all-day dining room offers guests simple, un-fussy British classics from a menu created by executive chef, Russell Ford. The brasserie’s commitment to a menu inspired by foraged, farmed and fished foods sourced solely from the British Isles is a welcome one in a city well known for its international culinary range. The impressive cocktail list excited with two firm favourites standing out: the signature 108 Edition, which magnificently muddled Bacardi Gold, Velvet Falernum, Angostura Bitters, lemon, sugar syrup and pineapple juice, and the heaven in a glass Nightingale: Grey Goose vodka, Chambord, lemon, sugar, lychee and raspberries topped with frothy egg white.
Our starters did not disappoint. Three silky, luxurious rock oysters from Sussex were a welcome treat, as was the seared tuna: six generous slices of flash-grilled steak – each morsel being meatier and juicier than the last – gently rubbed in a soy and ginger dressing. A whole lemon sole, served on or off the bone, was to die for, as was the lean, free-range 6-oz dry-aged beef fillet, which could only be described as genetically superior. Accompanying our meals was a heap of fluffy, creamy mashed potato, a generous helping of lucid green steamed spinach and a tangy, sweet East Sussex heritage tomato.
Thoughtful desserts such as Autumn-spiced fruit crumble, warm chocolate fondant with a punchy peanut butter ice cream, and josper grilled pineapple with coconut sorbet and a chilli and lime glaze places 108 Brasserie firmly on Marylebone’s all-day dining must-visit list.
The brasserie’s in–house 108 Pantry bakes home-made pastries, breads and cakes which can be enjoyed as either a take-away or delightful afternoon tea. Gluten-free and low-sugar offerings are ideal for the health-conscious among us. A superb private dining room plays host to birthdays, corporate dinners or intimate soirees. Equally suited for a jolly lunch with friends or an intimate dinner date, 108 Brasserie ticks all the boxes.
