A guide to London’s hottest new restaurants

Berners Tavern at the London EDITION Hotel

Featuring no-fuss British cuisine, Michelin-starred executive chef, Jason Atherton, provides all-day dining surrounded by sumptuous English country house-meets-Venice palazzo interiors.  Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea and even late supper, this hot new addition to London’s elite also has a super bar complete with billiards table, oil paintings and a stunning corniced ceiling.

To really impress, reserve a booth in the Punch Room, an exclusive, wood-paneled private bar with the look and feel of a country house library.  Opt for one of the signature EDITION punches; gin, jasmine tea and oak moss.

Duck & Waffle at the Heron Tower

Duck & Waffle at the Heron Tower

Located atop the City’s newest skyscraper, Heron Tower, and boasting ‘Britain’s highest restaurant’ accolade, executive chef Daniel Doherty has produced a charming menu inspired by British and European cuisine.  Options include roasted octopus and pearl barley & wild mushroom ragout.

We like the look of the pumpkin bellini; roasted pumpkin puree, maple, nutmeg topped up with prosecco.  The ultra private dining room seats sixteen and offers unrivalled views to London’s most noted landmarks.

Dabbous

Dabbous

Head chef Ollie Dabbous, formerly of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, brings an innovative light and modern menu concentrating on seasonal ingredients.  The current set dinner menu offers grilled mackerel with iodized sour cream, samphire and lovage along with a burrata filled with tamarillo and fennel pollen.

Head downstairs to Oskar’s Bar for a refreshing choice of homemade cocktails using seasonal syrups and infusions.  The Sex Panther really got us going; Cazadores Blanco tequila, Hennessy fine de cognac, lemon hibiscus, pomegranate, Panther tonic, fresh strawberries and a dash of rose water.

Pieds Nu

Pieds Nu

The restaurateur and owner of Michelin-starred Pied a Terre in Fitzrovia and L’Autre Pied in Marylebone, David Moore, has launched London’s hottest new pop-up, Pieds Nu.  Using the culinary concept of less is more, the menu relies on simple, fresh ingredients and dishes that burst with flavour.

The pop-up, which is located on Blandford Street, in Marylebone, very close to L’Autre Pied, offers an insightful wine list and sharing plates for small groups.

Mirror Room at the Rosewood Hotel

Mirror Room at the Rosewood Hotel

Chef Bjorn van der Horst, formerly of Eastside Inn in Farringdon, has taken the helm at London’s newest luxury hotel, Rosewood in Holborn.  The lounge bar’s interiors are distinctly English country house meets Euro brasserie and even has a grand piano ready for that impromptu sing-along.  Culinary hotspots include two magnificent private dining rooms, the brasserie-style Holborn dining room, and the Mirror Room restaurant, where guests can enjoy decent hotel cuisine together with some exciting alternatives.

The delightfully decadent dining room is adorned with mirrors, and each table impresses with bone china, crystal and opulent silverware.  Sampling the loose-leaf English afternoon tea is a must!

Merchant’s Tavern

Merchant’s Tavern

Gastronomic royalty Angela Hartnett together with Neil Borthwick and Canteen founders Dominic Lake and Patrick Clayton-Malone have collaborated their culinary talents and launched this refreshing all-day tavern, serving modern European cuisine.  The imposing warehouse interiors offer a beautifully Victoriana-meets-modern ambiance of reclaimed parquet flooring, intimate banquet seating and exposed brickwork.

The set menu looks a real treat: celeriac and apple soup with horseradish, or Gloucester old spot and fennel salad, followed by braised lamb neck and garlic creamed potato, or fish broth & English saffron.  Dessert options are fig & almond tart or rice pudding served with English quince (£18 for 2 courses, £22 for 3).  We like the look of the super-trendy Charlottes’ Rules cocktail: Aperol, Campari, Tanqueray Gin, ginger ale muddled with lime juice and orange. Fantastico!

Hoi Polloi at the Ace Hotel, Shoreditch

With London’s all-day dining trend firmly in place, this new establishment offers innovative delights such as ricotta pancakes with shaved fennel and smoked salmon, along with mushroom broth, poached egg and girolles.  The lunch menu offers pork cheeks with spiced apple, pickled carrot, and pressed lamb accompanied by Jerusalem artichoke, radish and Madeira.

The impressive wine and cocktail list includes the charming Bijou Basket; Sipsmith sloe, ginger wine and rhubarb bitters which will surely whet the appetite.  The modern Danish-inspired interiors offer a refreshing, bright atmosphere.
